Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Ofsted quality standards for children's homes?
Ofsted assesses children's homes against nine quality standards under the SCCIF: quality of care, children's views and wishes, education, health and well-being, positive relationships, protection, leadership and management, and the ethos of the home.
What is a Regulation 44 visit?
Regulation 44 requires independent visits to children's homes at least monthly. The visitor must speak with children, staff, and placing authorities, inspect records, and produce a written report for Ofsted on the quality and conduct of the home.
How often does Ofsted inspect children's homes?
Ofsted inspects children's homes at least once a year (full inspection) plus interim inspections as needed. New registrations receive an inspection within the first year. Homes rated Inadequate may receive more frequent monitoring.
