How written representations work
- Read the notice carefully and list every reason CQC gives
- For each reason, explain your position and attach evidence
- Show what you have changed, not just what you intend to do
- Keep it factual and professional; avoid arguing about tone
- Send it before the 28-day deadline and keep proof of sending
Common mistakes
- Missing the deadline
- Answering in general terms instead of reason by reason
- Sending promises without evidence
- Submitting updated documents that still contradict each other
- Not addressing concerns about the registered manager’s knowledge
What happens next
After considering your representations, CQC issues a notice of decision. It may drop the proposal, change it or confirm it. A notice of decision can be appealed to the First-tier Tribunal (Care Standards).
If CQC raises queries on your application, we revise and resubmit at no extra cost.
